Newman Stewart is partnering with a growing organisation in the North East to recruit a Management Accountant.
Our client is a fast-paced, commercially focused business services organisation. They are growing, ambitious and now seeking a proactive finance professional to join their finance team.
Job Summary
We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Management Accountant to join the finance team. In this key role, you will support the Finance Manager with daily reconciliations, debtor ledger management, monthly management accounts, payroll processing and audit preparation. You will help maintain accurate financial records, support month-end activity, and contribute to strong financial controls within a busy, fast-paced SME environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete daily reconciliations of bank accounts and credit card accounts.
- Maintain the debtor ledger and process invoices and self-bills.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts, including fixed asset schedules, prepayments and accruals.
- Support with month-end journals and wider month-end processes.
- Assist with payroll processing.
- Support preparation for annual audits.
- Work closely with the Finance Manager to ensure accurate reporting and financial control.
- Handle confidential financial information accurately and sensitively.
- Support wider finance activity and process improvement where required.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a busy finance department, ideally as a Management Accountant, Finance Assistant, Bookkeeper or similar.
- Studying towards, or recently completed, AAT.
- Experience supporting month-end processes, including journal posting, accruals and prepayments.
- Strong Excel skills, including lookups and pivot tables, with confidence using financial software and Microsoft Office.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with the ability to handle confidential financial information sensitively.
- Proactive, organised and adaptable, with the ability to take ownership of tasks and prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with previous experience working within an SME, high-growth or commercially focused organisation.
- Right to work in the UK.

- Previous experience within a commercial, professional services or business services environment.
- Experience supporting payroll, audit preparation or fixed asset accounting.
- Experience working in a growing finance function with evolving systems and processes.
- Exposure to process improvement within an SME environment.
